Read onto our Q&A and get the juicy details on Mariah:
PP: Your Instagram covers many topics about marriage, parenting, and self care, all while looking fabulous! What inspired you to start blogging?
Mariah: I started blogging when I realized that there was a need for honest realistic women, who share life’s ups and downs in an encouraging and vulnerable way. I was searching for someone who I could relate to and who was honest in her journey. I had been going through difficult life experiences and was looking for someone who seemed to understand. I realized that others might be searching for the same thing, so I decided to start The Sunkissed Peach.
PP: Your captions are thoroughly helpful for followers – always providing transparency and relatable flaws despite what “picture perfect” standards we might have for Instagram feeds. How has opening up to your followers helped you?
Mariah: Opening up to my followers and being transparent has allowed me to embrace who I am and who I want to be. I believe it allows me to connect to my followers in a unique way too. I love that my audience responds to my vulnerability by being vulnerable themselves. This allows a real relationship to form. I have so much to learn from my followers, this is a two way street. As much as I want my followers to learn from me, I also know that they have so much to share and offer too.
PP: As transparent as you are, what is one surprising thing your readers might not know about you?
Mariah: I try to be very transparent and let my followers get to know me! Something my followers may not know about me is that I love potted plants, but I cannot keep a plant alive. No matter how hard I try, I end up killing every plant I buy… even succulents. But I absolutely adore plants and love having plants around. I do not like fake plants… Needless to say, I invest a lot of money in new plants each year!
PP: With so many responsibilities, what comes first? Style or Comfort?
Mariah: Comfort over style. I need to be able to feel comfortable in my clothes/shoes/accessories. I do not need sweats and slippers, but what I want is jeans that fit well and don’t cut off my stomach. I want shoes that fit well and don’t give me blisters. I am all for comfort, but it needs to be stylish comfort.
PP: How would you describe your personal style?
Mariah:I would describe my style as “California Casual.” I wear jeans as often as possible. My flip-flop tan lasts year round, but I do enjoy dressing up. I love classic versatile pieces that are simple in design and are well-made.
PP: How would you describe your darling Addie’s style?
Mariah: Addie is a fashionista. She loves dresses and will not leave the house with out a bow in her hair. She loves accessories and picking out her own outfits. She does really well at matching. Her favorite thing in life is shoes. She has close to 10 pairs of shoes currently and will plan outfits around her shoes. She would wear shoes 24/7 if we would allow her too.
PP: Now that spring is here, what Spring 2019 trends are you excited to wear?
Mariah: I love Spring! I love the warm weather that comes with it. I am most excited about the bold colors that are coming. I love adding a pop of color into my look every day, so I am excited that the colors will be bold and in your face!
PP: What are you looking forward to most this year?
Mariah: I am looking forward to celebrating our fourth wedding anniversary. We are getting away together this year. Something we haven’t been able to do in the past. I am super excited for a weekend away with no responsibilities and no toddler.
PP: What fashion tips can you give to mothers like you?
Mariah: Some fashion tips for mothers – Always keep a hair tie on you. Keep a second (cute) top in mind as a backup. Spit up and diaper blowouts come with no warning signs. I would also encourage moms to find pieces that feel good and that make them feel good about themselves. It is important to use clothing and accessories as a tool to boost your confidence. If you feel bad about yourself in a piece of clothing, donate it.
PP: You also focus on self care, can you share with us any of your self care mantras?
Mariah: My biggest self care mantra is “No is a complete sentence.” I say no to a lot of things. I say no to things that I don’t want to do, things I feel obligated to do. Anything that includes the word “should” usually gets a no. Understanding that no is a complete sentence freed me up from feeling guilty or obligated to do certain things. This took away enormous amounts of stress and made me realize that prioritizing my self and my family was allowed. I think as women we struggle with believing that we can say no. In the end, we end up beating ourselves up and being resentful. I do not want to live that way.
P: What advice would you give to someone who wants to blog in the midst of their wild schedule?
Mariah: If you truly want to blog, I say go for it! Make the time to work on it. Invest in your self! Your voice matters! What you have to share matters. I am a firm believer that everyone – every single human being – has something they can teach someone else. That it is a privilege to be able to learn from other people and their experiences. I would encourage someone who wants to start blogging to think about their life, to think about the challenges they have overcome and share that with the world. If you look deep enough, you can find a common ground with everyone.
